A day in the life of a commercial industrial photographer

A day in the life of a construction photographer actually starts a few the days before the shoot itself. All of the technical preparations that need to be done must be complete so that everything is ready to load in the truck first thing in the morning. Here’s the Fyfe Photography checklist to confirm that everything is ready to go:
- Drone batteries charged
- Camera batteries charged
- SD cards formatted and inserted
- New drone propellors installed
- All lenses cleaned
- Sensors cleaned
- Aerial flight plan filed & approved by NAV Canada
- Drone firmware checked and updated
- Drone parachute charged and packed
- Weather checked for lack of geomagnetic storms
- Drone compass system calibrated
- Drone vision system calibrated
- Camera filters, backup SD cards & accessories packed
- Back up camera and drone packed
- Battery chargers packed
- Tripod packed
- Steel toe boots, hard hat, safety vest (PPE) packed
- Actor/model release forms printed & packed
- Shot list printed and packed
- Supplemental lighting packed
- Start time confirmed with client
These are a few of the preparations that go into getting the creative production started. Normally, the site has already been scouted in advance and a shot list has been developed and approved by the client. The shoot day itself is just about executing the plan without any surprises!
